From Private to Group Lessons to Club Chukka
Your teachers at the OC Polo Club have developed a program that will allow you to improve your skills to quickly move from Private lessons to Group lessons to ultimately join Club Members in the Club Chukka!
From Private to Group Lessons, the student must be able to execute the following tasks safely and independently:
Safety first!
Understanding of basic horse behavior
Put on halter, lead rope and bring horse in crossties
Groom, pick feet
Name parts of tack and parts of the horse
Put on/remove saddle and bridle, pro choice boots, bell boots
Mount/dismount the horse safely
Walk, trot and canter safely--be able to control the horse and ride in circles, change directions at will, gait transitions, understand basic leg and rein aids, etc.
Post on correct diagonal and canter on correct leads (simple changes)
Execute roll backs correctly at the walk
Walk, trot and canter 2 laps with one stirrup and without stirrups
Be able to hit both fore and backhands with foot mallet
Can tie horse to tie rail (quick release and solid knot)
From Group Lessons to Club Chukka, the student must be able to:
Execute roll backs correctly at trot and canter
Hit all 4 main strokes at the walk and trot consistently
Hit offside forehands at slow canter
Understand general Polo rules with regards to the "line of the ball" and "right of way"
Understand Penalties
